I remember ages ago reading a criticism of how sexual assault is shown in media, because it tends to focus on the victim and, in the worst cases, actively works to titillate the audience. I thought it was really important to show the exchange from the POV of the sympathetic character, so instead of looking through someone’s eyes to see a smaller helpless person at your mercy, you’re seeing a frightening asshole towering over you and you’re understanding the fear that comes with it– something of which many of us don’t need any special reminding, but others may not have ever experienced that before.
I still feel very strongly about this choice, if you couldn’t tell
You know, I like that you introduced Burkhart by showing him hanging out with his friends. And then you flipped the log over to show how rotten and worm eaten it was underneath. It’s depressingly true to life that this monster hides his rotten core so well.
